Rethinking the Rotunda III: José Santiago Pérez’s “As Above” & Charmette Young’s “It Keeps My Hands Busy”

October 16, 2025 – January 30, 2026
This year’s two-person installation features a newly commissioned work by José Santiago Pérez alongside a retrospective of the work of Charmette Young.
Pérez, a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of Studio Arts, explores the formal and conceptual possibilities of container, while Young, a self-taught artist born and raised in Pittsburgh, has developed a distinctive body of work, creating intricate bursts of color through embroidery floss on painted canvases. Each artist challenges the boundaries of craft, together they transform the historic Rotunda.
Presented by the University Art Gallery with generous support from The Fine Foundation and the Marstine Family Foundation. Special thanks to VaultArt Studio and the Department of Studio Arts.
