This is Not Ideal: Gender Myths and Their Transformation

University Art Gallery Exhibition This is Not Ideal: Gender Myths and Their Transformation

October 26 - December 7, 2018

How do works of art reinforce conventional gender roles? And how can they confront these myths? In the face of #metoo, gender inequity, heterosexism and cisgender privilege, how can museums make a difference?

Drawn from the University Art Gallery collection, this exhibition brings together works from the 17th century to the present that engage with shifting cultural norms of gender. This Is Not Ideal also features new works by local contemporary artists Katie Ott and Adam Milner.

Curated by Museum Studies students from the University of Pittsburgh under the direction of Prof. Alex Taylor.

Supported by The Fine Foundation
