Movements

Drawing on collections from across the University, this display explores the evolving histories, representations, and expressions of the African Diaspora.

University Art Gallery Exhibition Movements

February 15 - March 21, 2019

Movements explores three distinct definitions of the term “movement”— the act of changing one’s physical location or position or having this changed; a principle division of a longer musical work; and a group of people working together to advance their shared political or social idea. The show explores the word’s relationships to the evolving histories, representations, and expressions of the African Diaspora. This exhibition draws on the collections of the University Art Gallery and the University Library System at the University of Pittsburgh.

This exhibition was curated by Leslie Rose, 2019 Hot Metal Bridge Diversity Fellow in the History of Art and Architecture and UAG Intern.
